I am an ex-professional cricketer and sports psychology consultant specialising in working with youth and adult cricketers on having a strong mindset, performing under pressure, improving concentration and focussing on positive thinking.
This website is about helping cricketers who have been going through tough circumstances in their career with the mental side of their game. I know how difficult it can get when you are going through periods and I am here to help you.
I began playing competitive sports from a very early age which was instigated by my father. Upon reaching my teens I knew I wanted to compete professionally at the highest level. My passion for cricket was unquestionable as I played at the level of first-class cricket which evolved to a full-time career. Playing professional cricket gave me the opportunity to travel around the world and meet some incredible people, many who became great friends. These experiences provided a very positive impact on my personality as I learnt a great deal by travelling the world and experiencing diverse cultures.
Sport is unique in the way barriers can be broken down and bonds created. Playing professional sport enables anyone to experience wonderful moments of life and teaches skills that are easily transferable to other fields of life. My desire for others to experience these great moments and learn the skills was my motivation to achieve my coaching qualifications whilst playing professionally and this has enabled me to coach or help many junior and youth players during their careers.
It became clear to me that I would migrate to a coaching role once my professional cricket career came to an end. Coaching gives me great satisfaction, assisting players who are facing up to and working through challenging times. Earning their respect as a mentor is key and my aim is always to be an advisor and supporter when they need help. I’ve always known I have a natural ability to connect with people of all ages. Players have always listened to my advice which provides me with an abundance of energy and allows me to go deeper into the mental side of sport. This was the motivation to pursue my Masters degree in sports and exercise psychology. Acquiring these skills has allowed me to gain respect and trust with the people I’m working with and devise a learning plan which pushes them to stretch themselves to achieve their full potential and perform to the best of their abilities.
I coach my athletes to perform to their full potential without concern for the result and it’s evident that this is making a significant difference in their lives. I’m implementing the same mental skills I learnt during my Masters in Sports psychology and pushing myself without compromise daily to improve my craft as a player, mentor and coach. I’m still playing Premier League cricket and training my teammates to improve their craft and enjoy every bit of the game. This thinking process offers an enjoyable environment without the pressure many put on themselves when they focus exclusively on gaining a favourable result.
I believe I have passion for teaching and coaching. I am extremely happy to teach what I’ve learnt through my life experiences and as an athlete; I believe it’s crucial to have a tailored plan for every individual so it’s easier for them to learn and improve at a very steady pace. I’m exceptionally confident that all my skills and past experiences coupled with my knowledge and passion will improve the standard of your cricket.
I have worked with a wide range of cricketers from youth players through to adults and am currently available for a select number of new clients.
